Today's
vote at Dallas City Hall...
Your
feedback shaped my decision
Today, I voted in support of a new city ordinance
that will strengthen Dallas' smoking laws. Over the last several
months, the voters of District 3 have made it clear to me where
they stood on this issue. Your feedback shaped my decision.
Thank you.

Smoke clears in the city
New
smoking ordinance approved at city hall
Today,
your city council voted to expand the regulation of smoking in
our city to prohibit smoking in enclosed buildings. There will
still be smoking allowed in outside patios and open air spaces
of bars and billiard halls. To be honest, my biggest concern
is the very idea of government dictating individual rights.
And yet, in the 18 months since you elected me your councilperson,
no other issue has generated as much constituent feedback as the
expansion of Dallas' smoking ordinance. In great numbers,
you told me that you value businesses that are free of smoke.
You have told me that this is a public health issue that affects
public health care dollars. You spoke. I heard you. Your voice
was my vote. |

Re-thinking
the Oak Cliff Gateway; towing uninsured vehicles
Residents of District 3 may want to keep apprised of an upcoming
combined Trinity
River Corridor Project and Oak Cliff Gateway zoning community
meeting. Originally planned for Dec. 16, the meeting
has been rescheduled to a yet-to-be-set date in January. All residents
of Dallas will want to apprised that, beginning Jan. 1, a new
policy goes into effect that targets uninsured vehicles.
When drivers are stopped and cited for traffic violations, if
they are unable to produce proof of insurance, their vehicle will
automatically be towed to the Dallas Auto Pound — whether
the vehicle was involved in an accident ... or not. Learn

Happy
holidays!
There
are several opportunities for us all to celebrate the holidays
in District 3 ... and elsewhere in Dallas. Consider the Winnetka
Heights Holiday Home Tour this coming Saturday, Dec.
13 or the Hampton
Illinois Library Friends Christmas Party on Saturday,
Dec. 20. Also, on Dec. 13, Salon
Las Americas hosts a gala dance fundraiser to help
replace the fire-damaged St. Cecilia's sanctuary. You might also
enjoy the lights, official City of Dallas tree-lighting and other
festive activities planned during Fair
Park Holiday Lights, Dec. 13 & 14 (we're intrigued
by the pajama holiday movie screenings planned each night ...
outdoors in the Cotton Bowl). Running concurrently at Fair Park
on Dec. 13 & 14, is KwanzaaFest.
No matter how you celebrate the season, my wife Frances, daughter
Ivy, son Corbin and I — along with my staff at Dallas City
Hall and my campaign team — wish you great happiness
that lasts well into the new year. |
