Following
my "Great things happen" e-newsletter you received last
week, several new victories have contributed to our campaign
to protect District 3 neighborhoods. Normally, I wouldn't follow
one District 3 update so quickly with another ... however, as
a stakeholder in our community, I thought you would want to know
about these latest successes.

Fort
Worth Avenue/North Oak Cliff
Colorado
Place Apartments' repair agreement to reverse neglect
•
Working with a half-dozen homeowners' groups along Fort Worth
Avenue, we successfully achieved a signed agreement between owners
of the Colorado Place Apartments and the Dallas City Attorney's
office. This outcome reinforces the quality of life in
adjacent, stable neighborhoods. |

Davis
Street/Winnetka Heights
Apartment
proliferation rejected within historic district
•
Oak Cliff's Winnetka Heights neighbors face enough challenges
in preserving the architectural integrity of one of Dallas' most
historic communities. When a developer wanted to increase rental
units in the district, residents came to me for help. The result?
Dallas City Council denied the developer's request. |

Grady
Niblo/Cedar Vista
Say
goodbye to the "moonscape"
•
In 2005, neighbors were outraged to learn that a developer would
be allowed to clear-cut thousands of trees along Grady Niblo road.
When the development went under, neighbors were left with an ugly,
barren expanse. This past week, we successfully obtained a ruling
to begin restoring those trees at long last. |

Kiest
Park Reinvesting
in a treasured neighborhood resource
•
Ever since the land for a regional park was donated to the city
in the 1930s, Kiest Park has been an important recreational and
green space for area families. This month, the city has stepped
up the renovation and repairs for the Kiest Park Recreation
Center to improve amenities for park neighbors and guests. |
