Town Hall Meeting Summary and Action Plan

Proposed DHA Cliff Manor Project:
Permanent Supportive Housing for Homeless

Thank you to the over 500 fellow Oak Cliff neighbors that attended the Town Hall Meeting on Monday night. The purpose of the meeting was to give the community the opportunity to voice their feedback and ask questions regarding the proposed DHA Cliff Manor project.....and indeed we did. Joining me were
Mayor Tom Leppert; President of the Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) Mary Ann Russ; Chairman of the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance (MDHA) Mike Rawlings and MDHA President Mike Faenza.

Per my request, Mayor Tom Leppert has reconfirmed that the project is on HOLD.

I will be forming a task force of citizen leaders from surrounding neighborhoods and businesses along Fort Worth Avenue to meet with DHA and MDHA over the next few months to determine the viability of their proposal.

We've requested written answers to the questions addressed at the meeting of which will be communicated back to you when we receive them.

The City of Dallas is still awaiting a detailed answer on our inquiry to DHA regarding the proposed change of use to Cliff Manor in order to determine if their facility and proposal meet current zoning requirements.

A verbal presentation was given by the DHA and the MDHA to explain the proposed 100 unit project that neighbors were just made aware of over a month ago. Unfortunately, no written proposal was provided to the attendees. Over 50 questions were asked by neighbors directly affected by this proposal. Some were answered....many were left open to be addressed further.

It was made very clear that our Oak Cliff community remains compassionate and forward thinking in embracing our diversity.

With Oak Cliff already carrying the load of over 20% of low income housing within the City of Dallas, I am hopeful that we can meet the expectations of our neighborhoods in providing a safe and economically stable environment to live, work, and play. Likewise, we all remain committed to a city-wide effort to provide housing options for those in need. Oak Cliff has and will continue to do its fair share.
