D3 Quarterly Neighborhood Organization President's Breakfast

In order to maintain effective advocacy for the neighborhoods of Oak Cliff, West Dallas, and Mountain Creek within our District, I pull together all the neighborhood presidents on a quarterly basis for a group breakfast. Last Saturday, I was pleased to host over 35 of our Neighborhood President's at our Dallas West Library. This has proven to be an effective way for each neighborhood to share their successes with each other and to have one-on-one time with their Councilman.
City of Dallas Arbor Day Celebration

This year's Arbor Day Celebration for the entire city of Dallas was chosen to be celebrated at our Thomas Tolbert Elementary School in the heart of our Oak Cliff neighborhood. I was pleased to participate with the students and teachers in learning the importance of planting trees and taking care of our neighborhoods.
Trinity River Corridor Project

As Chairman of the Trinity River Corridor Project, I have been working with Mayor Leppert to get the Corps of Engineers to expedite the approval process of improving our levees. Last week we met with Lt. General Robert Van Antwerp, in Dallas, who is the Commanding General of the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Mayor and I emphasized the critical importance of the Corps to have the same sense of urgency as our City to resolve pending issues with repairing the levees and to avoid FEMA remapping for the surrounding areas. We will continue to work closely with the Corps to make sure our City receives the leadership and urgency we need for this important project.

Storm Debris Pick-up and OneDay Dallas Program

OneDay Dallas was launched on March 1st with many successes and a few setbacks. City staff continues to work out the kinks to make it easier for citizens to keep a clean and friendly neighborhood while being sensitive to the envirronment by recycling.

The February snowstorm significantly disrupted our ability to pick-up bulk trash and storm debris on a timely basis. Sanitation staff continues to work 6 day shifts in order to catch up. Our revised completion date is April 10th. To find out when your Storm Debris will be picked up next, please click HERE.
Streetcars Returning to Oak Cliff

I am pleased to report that Streetcars will soon be returning to Oak Cliff. With the announcement of the Tiger Grant funds, we will be able to work on connecting the streetcar system from downtown to Oak Cliff. I am continuing to work with Councilman Jasso and Councilman Koop - who is Chair of our City of Dallas Transportation and Environment Committee - in order to keep things going.
