Oak Cliff: Kiest Park
The Bond program allocated $276,654 to replace an existing playground in Kiest Park as well as add equipment to the playground area in the center of the ball fields. I am pleased that upon my recommendation, Council approved the project to begin construction and will be completed by November 2011.
Voters also approved to renovate and retrofit the walking trail in Kiest Park that is used by thousands of residents each week. Plans are underway to reconstruct the old 8 foot wide trail to a 12 foot wide asphalt trail with the hope to begin construction by Fall of 2011 and complete by Spring 2013. |

North Oak Cliff: Coombs Creek Trail
Last year, we celebrated the opening of Phase 1 of Coombs Creek Trail along Kessler Parkway. This initial trail with a length of .75 miles has been highly popular with Oak Cliff residents.
We are pleased to announce that construction will begin on Phase 2 of the trail spanning from Sylvan to Stevens Park Golf Course in April 2010 with a projected completion date of October 2010.
Plans are currently in work to design the conceptual plan for phases 3 and 4 that will take the Coombs Creek Trail all the way to Pinnacle Park. Our eventual intention is to connect Coombs Creek trail with the Trinity River Corridor Project trails across Beckley and the levee. We will update you as these progress. |

Mountain Creek: Park in the Woods Rec Center and Sugarberry Park
Over 2 years ago I pledged to Mountain Creek residents that we would bring City resources to them to improve the lighting and parking at the popular Park in the Woods Rec Center. Finally! I am proud to announce that plans have begun in the Park department to double the parking lot size and allow for additional lighting.
Also a popular destination for residents in the Woods is Sugarberry Park. There is an allocation in the bond program for improvements and playground construction. Plans are being finalized this year with construction completion in 2011. |
