In my first year as your city councilman, I focused my energy on attending to what you told me were the long-neglected needs of District 3.

I will continue to do that in this coming year. However, I now want to begin to cultivate and bring to fruition the many hopes I hear people all across this district expressing for their communities.

We have matured from being a district entirely focused on satisfying the basic needs of its neighborhoods to a district that is successfully meeting those basic needs and working to transform the hopes of its citizens into exciting realities.

I look forward to leading that effort — and hearing your ideas for how I can help District 3 attain its hopes — during 2008-2009.

Fast Track Overlook Opens
Through a $100,000 grant from MetLife Foundation to The Trust for Public Land (a national nonprofit land conservation organization) the City of Dallas has been able to build the Fast Track Overlook.

The observation deck, located at the intersection of Beckley Avenue and Commerce Street, now opens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Dec. 3 at 11:30 a.m.



Dave Neumann launches re-election campaign
"With your help, we have made great progress within the last year," Councilman Dave Neumann shared with supporters. On Oct. 20, Dave announced his campaign for re-election to the District 3 post.

Citing a surge of business investment in District 3, Dave also pointed to new, neighborhood-friendly initiatives in crime reduction, code enforcement, and economic development.

"We delivered a balanced budget in 2008-2009 resulting in no tax increase," Dave added. "Crime is down, the tax base is up, and Dallas is moving forward again."
